Class Descriptions

The APJCC Preschool strives to be a developmental school following guidelines set forth by the NAEYC (as stated in our Developmental Philosophy Statement).

Teaching Staff
Our teachers and assistant teachers and teachers’ aides have credentials and or training in Early Childhood Education and participate in ongoing, on site ECE workshops and staff meetings as well as attending professional conferences. Members of the preschool staff are dedicated to and believe in the quality of our school. Our staff goal is to provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for all of the preschool children while recognizing children for their individuality.

Barvazim (Ducks)
Toddlers at least 18 months old who will be 2 years old between December 2 and March 4, this school year
Our Barvazim program is designed to provide our youngest children a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment in which to explore and grow. Toddlers will be given loving attention from our caring staff. This class is 5, 3 or 2 days per week, mornings (8:30am-12:00noon) or full day.

Keshet (Rainbow), Dubonim (Teddy Bears) & Shemesh (Sun)
Children aged 24 months by December 1 of this school year
Children in our Dubonim, Keshet and Shemesh program will have the opportunity to experience a variety of developmentally stimulating activities while at the same time learning to interact with their peers and teachers. Younger children in this group may be placed in our Transitional 2’s, Keshet class. These classes are 2, 3 or 5 mornings per week (8:30-12:00).

Parparim (Butterflies), Kochavim (Stars) and Tzabim (Turtles)

Perach (Flower) & D’vorim (Bees)
Children aged 4 by Dec. 2 in this school year
Our Perach& D’vorim program offers activities designed to promote self-confidence, tune gross & fine motor skills and help articulate social, self help & listening skills for pre-K aged children. These classes meet 5 mornings per week. (8:30am-12:00noon)

Kofico’s Ma’avar (Monkey’s Passage)
Children aged 4 by Sept.1 in this school year
Our extended day pre-K program offers the same quality activities as our 4-year-old half-day program with additional time for projects in depth. Both 4- year- old programs are designed to stimulate and enhance the developmental growth of the 4-year-old child. This class is 5 extended days per week (8:30am to 1:30pm).

Kif Kef (Extra Fun)
Our Kif Kef program offers the same quality program in a less structured, mixed age group. Kif Kef is available from 7:30-8:30am and 12:00noon-6:00pm. Children attending Kif Kef must also be enrolled in our Keshet, Shemesh, Dubonim, Parparim, Kochavim, Tzabim, Perach or Ma’avar classes. Please see the Kif Kef Fact Sheet and Needs Survey included in this packet for more information.

The Preschool Director and teachers may make class placement exceptions for children with fall birthdays, if they determine that the exception is developmentally appropriate.
