Beginning Gymnastics and Tumbling (ages 5-12)

Children will receive an excellent foundation in tumbling, acrobatics, and gymnastics that will prepare them for higher levels in competitive all-around gymnastics and performance acrobatics, concentrating on skills for floor, vault, beam and partner skills. Interested in league play? The JCC's Basketball League is a unique developmental league that emphasizes learning the game and having fun, rather than simply focusing on winning. In addition to becoming better basketball players and athletes, players will develop confidence and learn to trust their teammates. All instruction, coaching, and officiating will be conducted by trainers from One-on-One Basketball. Our coaches from have extensive experience coaching youth basketball and have been trained specifically how to teach basketball to young players. They put the FUN in fundamentals! Learn the game or improve your skills at this one-week specialty camp! Children will be divided into groups based on age and skill level. The JCC is proud to have Michelle Bento-Jackson, former Santa Clara University women’s basketball coach from 2002-2008, teaching private and semi-private basketball lessons for boys and girls. If you are serious about taking your game to the next level there is no better way than to have a Division I basketball coach show you the way. Now children ages 10-13 can learn to use the Fitness Center in a safe and effective manner! After successful completion of the course requirements, which involves a practical and written examination, your child will be permitted to use the JCC Fitness Center. The course includes three half-hours of group instruction and a one-on-one half hour practical and written exam, with a Certified Personal Trainer specializing in Youth & Teen Fitness. Group Fitness Program for Youth (ages 10-13 years)

Would you like to participate in Group Fitness Classes with your 10-13 year old child? Enroll them in our Youth Group Fitness Program! This class includes 3 half-hour sessions of group instruction and a one-on-one half hour practical and written exam with a Certified Group Fitness Instructor. After successful completion of the course requirements, which involves a practical and written examination, your child will be permitted to participate in all of the Group Fitness Classes at the APJCC with an adult, except for Aqua Fit and Aqua Conditioning. The JCC offers swim lessons in our heated outdoor pool from May through October. Your child will receive individualized attention in our small classes, which are grouped by age & ability. For details, see the Aquatics web page or contact the Aquatics Office at 408.357.7423 for more information.

Private & Semi-Private Swim Lessons (all ages)

Does you child need a little one-on-one attention to help reach his or her aquatic goals? These lessons are set up at your convenience and can be held year round. Both Private and Semi-Private lessons progress at the student’s pace. Prices are based on the student’s membership status. Youth Swim Team (ages 6-14 years)

If your child loves to swim, then our dedicated coaches can help improve their technique, teach them competitive swimming skills, and teach them to work as a team. Practices are held twice a week and there are optional swim meets throughout the year. We offer two swim teams, one that practices on Mondays and Fridays, and one that practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This program is held every month of the year except for December. Fees are per month.
Minimum Requirements: 25 yards freestyle with side-breathing and 25 yards backstroke. For more information, contact the Aquatics Office at 408.357.7423.

Advanced Youth Swim Team (ages 6-14 years)

Advanced Swim Team is the next step for your child who is looking to enter the world of competitive swimming. Here they will improve their racing skills, focusing on starts and turns. This program is held every month of the year except December.
Minimum Requirements: 100 IM (25 yards of each stroke Freestyle, Backstroke, Breast stroke and Butterfly). For more information, contact the Aquatics Office at 408.357.7423.

Want to work out with your children in the pool? This program is for all levels and ages. We will work on technique and endurance at all levels. Family games and activities will also be a major part of our program. If you want to have fun in the pool as a family, then this is the program for you. No prerequisites. Learn the rules, skills, and strategy for playing Water Polo. Children must be able to swim 25 yards freestyle with side breathing, and 25 yards backstroke. Water Polo is a year-round program. For more information, contact the Aquatics Office at 408.357.7423.

Dance

The JCC is proud to introduce our new Dance Academy! We offer classes for ages 2-18 in ballet, combo, ballroom, contemporary and hip hop. We also offer tumbling for ages 2-5.

Fees: Tuition is $65 per class per month. Non-members of the JCC also pay a $75 annual registration fee, which includes a Dance Academy t-shirt and two tickets to the annual recital. JCC members pay no registration fee, receive two free tickets to the recital, and may purchase a t-shirt for $5.

Classes are ongoing from September through May, so students can begin on any date. There are no classes in the summer, but we do offer some specialty summer camps that focus on dance (see the summer camp web page).

Enrichment Classes

Beginning Circus (ages 5-12 years)

Circus Arts classes consist of all the basic training offered in the JCC's Gymnastics and Tumbling classes, with 1/3 to 1/2 of the time spent on circus arts including plate-spinning, juggling, ball-walking, poi balls, rope-climbing/spinning, and partner skills. Enjoy your day off from school as the JCC Youth Department takes you on the coolest field trips (9:30am-2:30pm) followed by a movie, popcorn and games in the teen lounge (2:30pm-6:00pm).
