Art History/Selected Topics (ages 55+)

Each week focuses on a stand-alone topic and is not dependent on prior sessions. This is an ongoing class that is offered in partnership with West Valley College.  In our upcoming classes we will continue to explore the development of modern art from 1900 to 2000, with its many stylistic movements and "isms", and the notable and notorious artistic characters

NEW! The Art of Film  (age 55+)
Learn about the early decades of cinema, from 1895 to 1940, with the technical innovations and creative genius of such notables as Edison, Pathe and the Lumiere brothers, Guy, deMille, and Lang.  Become familiar with the rise of cinema outside the US and Europe too.  No prior experience necessary. Just bring your curiosity! Each week focuses on a stand-alone topic and is not dependent on prior sessions. This is an ongoing class that is offered in partnership with West Valley College.

2014  Opera Guild Lecture Series

During the opera season, the Opera Guild sponsors the San Francisco Opera Guild lecturers plus West Bay Opera & Opera San José previews. The lectures feature performers that coincide with their season’s yearly offerings.  Free to members, $10 for general admission.

New Class for Kids!

Hansel & Gretel - Let's Make Opera  (ages 5-16)
With Bayshore Lyric Opera Company. Have you ever wanted to perform in an opera as a singer, dancer, or both? Join us for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity where you can perform in one of the world's most popular fairy tales, Hansel & Gretel. The principal roles are sung by professional opera singers, and the chorus, dance scenes and soloists will be performed by the kids. For ages 5-16 years old. All participants will receive a part. Cost per session (8 classes) is $80 for JCC Full Center Members and Social Members, $90 for non-members.

Ballet Master Class with Aesha Ash 
Sunday, October 12th | 1:00pm and 2:15pm 

The Teitelman Family Center for the Arts, APJCC Dance Academy and Los Gatos Ballet present a Master Ballet Class with instructor Aesha Ash. Aesha attended the legendary School of American Ballet, and at the age of 18 joined the New York City Ballet. She has also performed with the legendary Bejart Ballet, in Lausanne Switzerland, and the Alonzo King's Lines Ballet. Aesha has also worked with Morphoses, founded by Christopher Wheeldon, and has been featured in Dance Magazine, Pointe Magazine, Bazaar, Marie Claire, the New York Times, and the San Francisco Chronicle. You will find Aesha featured in the New York City Ballet Workout II, Barbie Nutcracker, and as the principal dance double for Zoe Saldana in the movie Center Stage. Currently Aesha is an instructor at Los Gatos Ballet.

Cost is $25 for JCC Members,  $25 for Students, $30 for Non-members.

Session I  |  1:00pm-2:00pm for ages 7-13 years old

Session II  |  2:15pm-3:15pm for ages 14 through adult
