Florence Melton Adult Mini-School

Are you interested in serious Jewish learning?

The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School is the largest pluralistic adult Jewish education network in the world. The only prerequisite is a commitment to learn.

Students enroll in a sequential two-year course. They meet one day a week throughout the academic year. There are no examinations and no homework.

Four text-based courses make up the sequential two-year curriculum written by a team of experts at the Hebrew University's Melton Center for Jewish Education.

We also offer a special version of the Melton program designed for parents who want to create meaningful Jewish experiences for themselves and their families: the Melton Parent Education Program.

The Melton faculty is composed of the premier Jewish educators in our community. To reflect the diversity of our student population, Melton educators represent the major movements in Judaism: Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox.

For the 2008-09 school year, 1st year and 2nd year courses begin September 8th, 2008 and continue through June 27th, 2009.

For our graduates and advanced learners, the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School also offers a graduate curriculum. Over the 20-week academic year the graduate courses give our students the opportunity to engage with either a single classical text and its accompanying commentary or more focused topics. Classes include "Bereshit," an in-depth study of the first book of the Torah; "Shemot," an in-depth study of the second book of the Torah; "Three Jewish Thinkers: Maimonides, Nachmanides, and Heschel," "Israeli Culture through Israeli Literature," and "Introduction to Kaballah." Graduate courses begin November 10th, 2008.
