Another year of the JCC Maccabi Games has come to an end and while Team San Jose's medal count was low, our spirits and joy were high. During our baseball teams JCC Cares project, our baseball players helped under privileged children some basics of baseball and also got to spend time with major league pitcher Tanner Sheppers of the Texas Rangers. Last night the teens enjoyed host family night in which the families that they were staying with while in Orange County took them out to show them the community. Our teens spent time on the beach, having BBQs, and going to pool parties. Today was a little more relaxing as most of our athletes did not compete, but instead took time to watch the medal rounds of the sports that had their new friends playing in.

Tonight ended with a giant closing ceremony that included inflatables, a dance party, hair coloring, and more. Team San Jose had a great time trading pins and gear with all of the other delegations and are coming home with some great new items.

TThe true highlight of the night was that Team San Jose received 4 Midot Medals. Midot Medals are new to the JCC Maccabi Games and are given to the athletes that embody any one of 7 Jewish values at the games. Alli Pope, Aaron Ross, Zach Stubbs, and Allyson Weinstock each received one of these medals and we are very proud of all of them.

Another great day of competition at the Games today. Our 16u boys soccer team had two extremely close matches and only lost each by one goal in the final minutes. Our 14u soccer team played with a lot of passion and even had one of our Team San Jose players in goal for his first time ever. You can check out a picture of Ben in action below.

Before our in-line hockey players started out their competition today, they participated in JCC Cares. JCC Cares is the community service aspect of the JCC Maccabi Games and really teaches the teens about giving back to their communities. Our in-line hockey players shared some great times with some under privileged youth and really got just as much out of it as the children did.

Our evening activity consisted of bowling, go kart racing, miniature golf, arcades, and more. The teens had a blast trying out all of the activities and taking a break from their sports. Tomorrow medal rounds begin so make sure to stay updated with all the scores by going to  the results page.

We had a great time at opening ceremonies last night. For those of you that were not able to watch the live stream, Team San Jose got a special shout out for the delegation with the best clothing. Check out our picture below for a shot of our awesome clothing. There were some amazing musical performances, as well as some great feats of talent.

Today was the first day of competition for our athletes. While not all of our teams won, they all had a great time. Results of the games can be found by going to http://ocmaccabi.com/sports-schedules-results/.  Today's matches as well as tomorrow's matches will determine the seeding for the medal rounds which begin on Wednesday. Our swimmers were so excited to compete, that they did not want to wait until Wednesday to see medals. Ofir Bekker took home a silver medal for a relay and Allie Pope took home a Gold!

Tonight all of the athletes spent the night hanging out at a beach filled with games, inflatables, music, food, and more. They had a blast hanging out with teammates, new friends, and of course the rest of Team San Jose. Tomorrow we look forward to some more great competition and more fun.
